The Project Brief

Internal and external refurbishment of Pickers Farm Cottage, Saltdean

Description of works:

Pickers Farm Cottage is a semi-detached property located in Saltdean, Brighton. PH Beck was appointed by Brighton and Hove City Council to carry out a full internal and external refurbishment of the property, working alongside Evolution Architects to deliver the scheme in line with a detailed schedule of works.

The project required a considered and methodical approach, combining structural alterations, energy efficiency improvements and high quality internal finishes to bring the cottage up to modern residential standards.

The scope of works included:

  • Removal of asbestos material in line with current regulations
  • Excavation of trial holes to confirm the existing foundations
  • Formation of new openings to both ground and first floor levels to enlarge the kitchen and bathrooms, including the installation of new structural support
  • Installation of internal wall insulation and loft insulation to improve the thermal performance of the property
  • Replacement of external doors and windows, together with new internal doors throughout
  • Installation of a new fitted kitchen and new sanitaryware to the bathrooms
  • Installation of a new Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP), cylinder, heating and hot water distribution system, served via new radiators
  • General finishes and redecoration throughout to complete the refurbishment

All works were planned and delivered to a high standard, with close coordination between the design team, the Council and our site team to ensure a smooth handover. Following completion, the property was returned to residential use, providing a comfortable, energy efficient home for its future occupants.
